He discusses his September 15 testimony before the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee, where he was the lone cybersecurity witness among 17 healthcare bills, and argued that resiliency rules must work for rural and resource-constrained hospitals that still care for patients. He traces his career from international trade policy and export controls through the 1999 encryption fight, Homeland Security, and the formative years of the public-private partnerships that underpin healthcare cybersecurity today. As December 31 approaches, he looks ahead to a memoir, poetry, golf, cycling, and the classical guitar he has kept within arm’s reach since he was fourteen.
