Greg Garcia serves as the Executive Director of the Health Sector Coordinating Council Cybersecurity Working Group. This group is a government-recognized critical infrastructure industry advisory council comprising over 400 healthcare providers, pharmaceutical and medtech companies, payers, and health IT entities. They collaborate with the government to identify and mitigate cyber threats to health data, research, systems, manufacturing, and patient care.
Previously, Garcia was appointed by President George W. Bush as the nation's first Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity and Communications for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from 2006 to 2009. Throughout his career in national service, he has held various executive roles in business, public policy, and national security. These include serving as the executive director of the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council, co-founder of the I.T. Sector Coordinating Council, and holding executive positions with Bank of America, 3Com Corporation, Americans for Computer Privacy, the Information Technology Association of America, and the American Electronics Association.
Additionally, Garcia has served as professional staff on the Committee on Science in the U.S. House of Representatives. There, he played a key role in drafting and shepherding the enactment of the Cyber Security Research and Development Act of 2002.
